This research guide, arranged into three chronological sections, will\u00a0help you to find and understand the original sources\u00a0that can tell you more about the history of your village school.\u00a0These\u00a0will help you to answer questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How old is our village school?<\/li>\n<li>How many children attended?<\/li>\n<li>What were Victorian school inspections like?<\/li>\n<li>Why is our village school called a Church of England primary school?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before turning to the\u00a0original records, you should check\u00a0if anything has already been written about your town or village school. Look in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the chapter on education in volume III of the <em>Victoria County History for Leicestershire<\/em><em>, <\/em>available in many local libraries or at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordoffice.org.uk\/\">Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>the books and articles listed below<\/li>\n<li>your local reference library and the Local Studies Library at the County Record Office, where you may find published histories of individual schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There will almost certainly be much more to find in documentary sources.
