This interactive map will, in time, provide basic information about\u00a0all non-Anglican places of worship that have existed in the county since the Act of Toleration of 1689. Work is ongoing to complete this. Where a place of worship has been added you can\u00a0find out more about its history\u00a0by clicking the link in the \u2018pop-up\u2019 entry.\u00a0It is not intended to include places of worship within the city of Leicester, which have already been mapped here<\/a>. Photographs and information about many of the county’s Anglican churches can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The markers on the map are colour coded so if, for example, you know your ancestors worshipped in a Baptist chapel, but there was not one in their village, you should be able to see where the nearest Baptist chapel was to their home.<\/p>\n

Blue = General Baptist<\/p>\n

Turquoise = Particular Baptist<\/p>\n

Green = Independent\/Congregationalist<\/p>\n

Red = Wesleyan Methodist<\/p>\n

Purple = Primitive Methodist<\/p>\n

Pink = Wesleyan Reform<\/p>\n
