Who we are<\/strong> Welcome to Leicestershire History, the site that will help you to explore the rich history and heritage of one of England\u2019s lesser-known counties. We are a broad mix of historians, archaeologists, business people and others who are passionate about Leicestershire\u2019s history. We formed Leicestershire Victoria County History Trust<\/a> in 2008 to establish a community history project that would research and publish a history of each of Leicestershire\u2019s towns and villages across six key themes, ranging chronologically from the arrival of the first settlers to the present day:<\/p>

Religious life<\/strong><\/p>

Local government<\/strong><\/p>

These will be published online initially and, as groups of parishes are completed, as part of the internationally renowned Victoria County History (VCH) series of volumes that can be consulted in many libraries worldwide. The last Leicestershire volumes in this series,\u00a0covering the city parishes <\/a>and\u00a0Market Harborough and its surrounding villages<\/a>, were published in 1958 and 1964 respectively, when work ceased. Research has now recommenced on some of the remaining towns and villages, and we are both proud and delighted that HM Queen Elizabeth II\u00a0accepted\u00a0the rededication of this national\u00a0series to her\u00a0to mark\u00a0her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.<\/p>
