Most of what we see is the result of human activity. The undulations may be natural (although some are not), but the fields, hedges, roads and other features have all been created by people.<\/p>\n<p>The link below, to our first post in this section, is about woodland. Converting from the length and breadth of woodland quoted in Domesday Book [<a title=\"Woodland\" href=\"http:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=213\">read more<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>As the woodland section shows, place-names can provide valuable clues\u00a0to our ancient landscape. Dr Richard Jones\u00a0of the Centre for English Local History at the University of Leicester has recently taken a look at the ongoing relevance of\u00a0these names today.
