Stonesby is a small village about\u00a0one mile further to the east.<\/p>\n<h3>Waltham on the Wolds<\/h3>\n<p>Religious meetings of &#8216;Anabaptists&#8217; were held in Waltham in 1669 at Henry Redgate&#8217;s house during the time of the church service on Sundays. They were said to be &#8216;an ordinary sort of people&#8217;. Their &#8216;teachers&#8217; were tailor Henry Redgate (presumably the Henry Redgate who lived there) and Tobias Watson, a joiner of Garthorpe.<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>No dissenters were recorded in 1676,<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> and only two in 1706, a father and son who were Quakers, but both attended church.<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Wesleyan Chapel was built in 1843, at a cost of \u00a3270,<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> with 88 free and 104 other sittings. There were 65 people at the afternoon service in census Sunday, 1851, and 68 in the evening. No Sunday school was recorded.<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Stonesby<\/h3>\n<p>No dissenters are recorded in 1676,<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn6\">[6]<\/a> or between 1706 and 1712.<a title=\"\" href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/Pam\/Documents\/new%20web%20pages\/Protestant%20Nonconformity%20in%20Bescaby.docx#_ftn7\">[7]<\/a> A Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built in 1847, to accommodate 100 people.
