{"id":3267,"date":"2015-07-28T12:48:47","date_gmt":"2015-07-28T12:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3267"},"modified":"2016-05-27T13:03:59","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T13:03:59","slug":"protestant-nonconformity-in-stapleton","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3267","title":{"rendered":"Protestant Nonconformity in Stapleton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stapleton is a village in south-west Leicestershire, in the parish of Barwell and near the town of Hinckley.<\/p>\n<p>Five nonconformists were noted here in 1676, four of whom were women, but their denomination is not recorded.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> Two families of \u2018Anabaptists\u2019 lived here in 1706.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There seems to have been very little nonconformity in the later 18th and early 19th centuries.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Primitive Methodists<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first record of Methodism comes from White\u2019s Directory of 1863, which recorded the presence of a Methodist chapel.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> His later directory in 1877 is the first to record the presence of a Primitive Methodist chapel, although it was likely to have been the same one.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> Neither source mentions when the chapel was built.
