{"id":3291,"date":"2015-08-03T13:47:22","date_gmt":"2015-08-03T13:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3291"},"modified":"2015-08-07T13:08:21","modified_gmt":"2015-08-07T13:08:21","slug":"protestant-nonconformity-in-muston","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3291","title":{"rendered":"Protestant Nonconformity in Muston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Muston (pronounced Musson) is a small village in the Vale of Belvoir, about 10 miles north of Melton Mowbray.<\/p>\n<p>No dissenters were noted in 1676,<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> or 1706.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The houses of William Goodacre and John Pickering were registered for Protestant worship in 1778.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although no response survive to the meeting house return of 1829, a Wesleyan Methodist chapel had been built in the village in 1802, with 50 free and 7 other seats. By 1851 a Wesleyan Reformed congregation was meeting there; they did not provide details of the numbers attending Sunday services on 31 March 1851, but provided average figures of 40 for an evening service and 43 for a morning Sunday school, adding \u2018the agitation among the Wesleyans has caused great variation in the congregation\u2019.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> The chapel was described as Methodist Free Church in 1863,<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> and had become a United Methodist chapel by 1908.<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Notes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> A.
