{"id":3350,"date":"2015-08-06T17:05:13","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T17:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3350"},"modified":"2015-08-06T17:05:13","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T17:05:13","slug":"protestant-nonconformity-in-bruntingthorpe","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/leicestershirehistory.co.uk\/?page_id=3350","title":{"rendered":"Protestant Nonconformity in Bruntingthorpe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruntingthorpe is 6 miles north-east of Lutterworth, and about 10 miles south of Leicester.<\/p>\n<p>No illegal religious meetings were noted here in 1669,<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> and in 1676 only three nonconformists were noted as living in the village.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> Rector David Brunning informed Bishop Wake in 1706 that \u2018there are only 3 dissenters, who sometimes go to the Presbyterian, sometimes to the Anabaptist meetings. They had formerly a conventicle in this parish, but lately it has been disused\u2019. There were still three dissenters in 1709.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Robert Bingley\u2019s house was licensed for dissenting meetings in 1729, but the denomination which met here is not recorded.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Forty Baptists were said to meet in a house here in 1829.<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> They built a chapel in 1845, with 50 free and 50 other seats.
