Thanks to funding from Charnwood Forest Geopark and the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund, and with help from volunteers, we are currently undertaking research on the settlements in Charnwood Forest. Each of the places indicated by a red dot on the map above will be included, having been selected by the team at Charnwood Forest Geopark. Our work will culminate in an ‘historical digest’ for each of the settlements indicated with a red dot on the map above. These will be made available to the public on the Geopark’s website in 2027.
So, what’s in an Historical Digest? Each digest will be about 2,000 words long, and we’ve been asked to include information on all of the topics listed below. Our group of volunteers is being guided by a qualified historian, and so even if you have little or no previous experience, you’ll be guided on your research journey. Volunteers are integral to this project, and are already helping us to gather the information we need. But we still need more help – so if you’re interested in joining our team of volunteers, we’d love to hear from you! To find out more, please contact Dr Susan Kilby, sk565@le.ac.uk
